Director of ELA Support

The Director of ELA Support will lead the development and execution of ELA support including but not limited to diagnostic tools, curriculum review processes and referral services, assessment review processes as well as cross-network learning opportunities for instructional leaders, principals and teachers. The Director ELA Support will serve as the ELA expert for the organization and expected to stay current on research, tools and best practices for literacy instruction. This is a critical leadership position within D2D and reports directly to the Managing Director of Content and Training.

Responsibilities:

  • Find and/or develop tools for teachers and leaders to support implementation of instructional improvement in ELA. Monitor ELA research and write actionable implication abstracts.
  • Source, evaluate, annotate and share out tools (district created and open source) that can be helpful across districts.
  • Oversee the design of any ELA training content and resources for teachers and leaders.

Support district improvement efforts:

  • Answer district questions (directly and via Directors of Instructional Support) to support decision-making.
  • Support direct teacher and leader training efforts where needed and available.
  • Support development of curriculum specific transition plans.
  • Develop and hone the protocol for classroom observations and data collection and annotation in ELA.
  • Develop and hone the protocol for assessment and curriculum review and feedback in ELA. Train full and part time team members on how to execute and quality control the outcome.

Stay plugged in:

  • Keep in touch with ELA leaders of other organizations to stay informed about the latest ELA developments and offerings.
  • Develop a deep understanding of the standards and assessments for any states with districts D2D supports.
  • Build expertise on the most effective curriculum and instructional materials.
  • Represent the organization publicly where needed.

Qualifications:

Experience:

  • 8+ years of educational experience and 5+ years of ELA instructional leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership improving student learning in ELA.
  • District leadership experience preferred

Skills:

  • Deep understanding of the standards and assessments and instructional implications.
  • Commitment to quality work and demonstrated ability to manage quality of development through others.
  • Detail orientation, organization and ability to keep multiple projects moving forward concurrently.
  • Great communication skills verbally and in writing.

Other Notes:

  • Travel to Nashville regularly and weekly team calls are expected.
  • Additional ground travel to districts in Tennessee and Florida can be expected.
  • Otherwise work is designed with location and work-hour flexibility.
